Challenge or social need:

To fight digital illiteracy among adults and youth who are not able to use or unaware about ICT in daily life and who belong to vulnerable social groups like school drop outs, immigrants and women in order to equip them with the skills needed to use digital technology. We live in a world today where using digital technologies and accessing information via the internet is becoming increasingly necessary, using services like health and education, attaining jobs, connecting friends, relatives and colleagues, sharing moments, ideas and experience, expanding innovation and remaining globally competitive. It was thought that target groups are struggling to gain basic access to technology because of various reasons and ways. In this respect by providing different activities people are equipped with the basic digital skills to get the advantages of being digital and necessary skills to face the “online” challenge.

Description:

In the Project, different type of organizations in the European Union collaborated to fight digital illiteracy among adults and youth who are not able to use or unaware about ICT in daily life and who belong to vulnerable social groups like school dropouts, immigrants and women in order to equip them with the skills needed to use digital technology.

Benefits/success factors/ measurement of success:

Project activities stimulated awareness of the possibilities of learning in the digital world, making them users instead of just being watchers. The project gave them a chance to see the richness and possibilities of the digital world. Project participants also had a chance to improve their language skills with language course activities. Project participants saw the similarities and differences of cultures. On national level partner organizations addressed and informed project target groups about project activities; inviting people to join in local workshops. On an international level online interactive E-Learning modules about ICT have been the most effective and beneficial side of the project. The E-Learning Modules which were based on learning by doing and scenario-based learning have been used not only by EU citizens but also by people who are from different countries of the world because of the structure of the Modules which are easy to use and educational. Also the Modules have been prepared in 8 different languages, so it helped the increase the number of people that the Project targeted. The modules will be active for years and the number of the beneficiaries would be duplicated in years.

Critical points/weaknesses:

Apparently, the most critical aspect of the project is the limited variety of project outputs and the lack of alternative alternatives to the beneficiaries. While evaluating this situation, the years of the project and the digitalization possibilities of the period should also be taken into consideration.

Sustainability characteristics:

On an international level online interactive E-Learning modules about ICT have been the most effective and beneficial side of the project. Transferability characteristics:

Thanks to the training given to the participants throughout the project, such as digital literacy, technology skills, and foreign language, the participants had the opportunity to develop in many different ways. Participants can find the opportunity to use and develop these basic skills in many different areas.

Inclusive characteristics/Innovative elements:

The inclusive perspective taken as a basis within the scope of the project has not only ensured the creation of project activities and project outputs in an inclusive way, but also young, old, disadvantaged, etc. in terms of its target audience. It can be said that the project is inclusive in all aspects, since it appeals to a very large audience.
